Spring Clean Your Hair, Your Career, and Your Mindset — A Fresh Start That Actually Last

There's something about the first warm day of spring that makes you want to change everything. New hair. New goals. New energy. I see it every March — my bookings spike, my DMs fill up, and women walk into my suite saying some version of the same thing: I'm ready.

I love that energy. But I've also learned — after thirty-plus years — that the difference between a spring impulse and a spring transformation is planning. Cutting your hair on a whim feels great for a day. Building a hair care protocol, a career strategy, and a lifestyle rhythm that carries you through the whole year? That's the real glow-up.

So let's do this right.

Spring truth: A fresh start without a plan is just a fresh impulse. The women who look effortless by June started building in March.

Your Hair in Spring: Undo Winter, Build the Foundation

Winter left receipts. If you followed a protocol, your hair is in good shape and just needs a seasonal adjustment. If you didn't, spring is your recovery window — and it's shorter than you think. What you do in March and April determines how your hair performs all summer.

Step one: a professional assessment. Not a style, not a color — an honest conversation about what your hair needs right now. That's what my consultations are designed for. I look at your texture, your density, your elasticity, your scalp health, and your damage history before I pick up a single tool. This isn't a formality. It's the foundation of everything that follows.

Step two: a spring deep treatment. I recommend either the Cortex Hot Oil Treatment for moisture restoration or the Bond Rebuilder for structural repair, depending on what the assessment reveals. This resets your hair's baseline so that every service afterward — color, press, protective style — is working with healthy strands, not compensating for weak ones.

Step three: a seasonal product swap. Your winter products are too heavy for spring and summer. That rich mask you used weekly? Move to biweekly. That heavy sealant? Switch to something lighter. Your heat protectant should still be rated for the actual temperature you're using — that doesn't change with the seasons, even though most people use a lighter one when the weather warms up and wonder why their ends are crispy by July.

Step four: if you're considering color, spring is the ideal time to start. Whether it's a lived-in warm tone, copper highlights, or the gray blending conversation you've been putting off, beginning the color journey now gives us the full spring-to-summer runway to build dimension gradually. Rushed color is how corrections happen. Planned color is how masterpieces happen.

Your Career in Spring: Plant Now, Harvest Later

If you're a stylist reading this, spring is your planting season. The clients you attract in March and April become the recurring revenue that sustains you through every slow week the rest of the year. But attraction without retention is just traffic. Retention is what builds a career.

Here's what I teach the stylists I mentor: your spring strategy should focus on three things. First, raise your consultation game. Every new client who walks in during spring rush is an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise — not just your technique. Ask better questions. Explain what you're doing and why. Educate them on their own hair. The clients who stay forever aren't the ones who loved the style. They're the ones who learned something.

Second, audit your pricing. If you haven't raised your prices since before the new year, you're behind. Materials cost more. Your skills have grown. Your time is finite. Pricing isn't about what clients will tolerate — it's about what your expertise is worth. I help stylists build pricing structures that reflect their value and communicate it without apology.

Third, create a content rhythm. Social media isn't optional anymore — it's your storefront. But posting randomly when inspiration strikes isn't a strategy. Build a content calendar. Commit to a posting cadence you can sustain. Lead with education, not just before-and-afters. The stylists who grow the fastest are the ones who teach online, not just showcase.

I spent twenty-five years building my career through client relationships and referrals alone. When I came back from retirement, I had to learn the digital landscape from scratch. It humbled me. And it made me a better mentor, because I know exactly how overwhelming it feels to build a brand from behind a chair.

Your Lifestyle in Spring: Permission to Bloom Slowly

Spring energy is intoxicating. Everyone is launching, posting, goal-setting, and performing their renewal. And there's a pressure in that — a feeling that if you're not exploding out of winter with a new everything, you're falling behind.

You're not. Growth doesn't require a grand gesture. Sometimes it's quiet. Sometimes it's internal. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do in spring is take care of yourself with the same intentionality you bring to your work.

Book the appointment you've been postponing. Not because you need to look good for something, but because you deserve to feel good for no reason. Sign up for the class that scares you. Reach out to the mentor you've been admiring from a distance. Start the savings account for the suite you want to own someday.

I came out of retirement in what many people considered the wrong season of my life. Too late. Too risky. Too much. But purpose doesn't follow a calendar. And neither should you.

Spring is an invitation, not a deadline. Let it be one.

What's Growing at Love and Warmth

Spring is our planning season at the Love and Warmth Foundation. While the coat drives happen in October and November, the preparation begins now. We're building sponsor relationships, coordinating with community organizations, and identifying the families and schools that need us most this coming fall.

If your business or organization wants to partner with us for the 2026 coat drive, spring is the time to connect. Corporate sponsorships, employee volunteer days, and co-branded campaigns are all available. Reach out through loveandwarmth.org and let's build something warm together.
